The City of Panama City has received notification of approval of the City’s first Public Assistance funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the amount of $1,862,911.
In early March, the City submitted grant proposals to FEMA for about $25 Million of emergency protection and debris removal costs.
This initial reimbursement is for expenses incurred by the City for emergency protective measures. This will be the first of many payments the City will receive to reimburse its response and recovery cost from Hurricane Michael.
The City is working with Hagerty Consulting and FEMA to develop additional project worksheets and requests for funding.
The first projects submitted by the City are initially being funded at the original 75-percent federal cost share rate to avoid any delays. This and other Public Assistance projects were in process prior to approval of 100 percent cost share.
On March 9th, President Trump expanded the federal cost share for debris removal and emergency protective measures to 100-percent for the first 45 days from Hurricane Michael’s landfall. The projects will be adjusted to provide the remaining 25-percent of eligible costs to the applicants.
